L. Fritz Gruber
"I do not live for photography, but with the photography."
L. Fritz Gruber is one of the most significant collectors of photography in Germany and was co-founder of the photokina. In more than 300 exhibitions, among other things, he helped Photographers such as August Sander at a comeback.
Today his collection and the film lives on as the "Gruber Collection" at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Together with his wife Renate, he was a tremendous advocate of photography and helped the medium for recognition as an art form.
In our archive we do have a documentary, based on two long interviews from 1998 and 1999, which gives a deep inside view of the "gentleman of photography" and is part of the "Gruber Collection" at the Museum Ludwig Cologne.
