IKS DOCUMENTS FUTUR 3 IN THE SCHMELA HOUSE
APPROACHING AN UNKNOWN FUTURE
A Programm in the Schmela House Düsseldorf

With Futur 3, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen takes the long view. With the increasing turn away from future-oriented or Utopian discourses during the second half of the 20th century, the focus of attention in recent decades has been on the present. This lecture and discussion program will pose questions about human nature, cultural activities, and society’s present and future powers of development. Moderated by Heinz-Norbert Jocks in collaboration with Doris Krystof and Marion Ackermann.

The IKS was asked for the documentation of the series Futur 3 and the production of short trailers for using on their youtube channel.

ART INSTALLATION "CRASH" BY WERNER REITERER DESTROYED

The austrian artist Werner Reiterer was asked by the city Leibnitz (Austria) to create an art work in public space. In his work "Crash" Reiterer created a car accident with the statue of Maria, which was moved by the city four times in the last 100 years, when ever the society has changed.
In the night of november, 17th this work was burned. This unbelivable, dump and ignorant action shows again how important contemporary art is today.

FRANZ MARC, HENRI NANNEN AND THE BLUE FOAL AT KUNSTHALLE EMDEN
NEW PAINTING OF TWO CATS HAS BEEN FOUND

On December 25th Henri Nannen, the founder of the Kunsthalle Emden, has been celebrated his 100th birthday. The same year, 1913, in which his most liked painting of Franz Marc "Blue Foal" was produced. This icon of expressionist painting by Franz Marc is also the starting point for an exhibition with around 30 famous paintings of other expressionists.

But the real sensation is the discovery of a new painting of Franz Marc which has been found under their own "Blue Foal" painting. It is a study of two cats!

IKS AND MUSEUM LUDWIG PRODUCING FILM ABOUT THE MINIMAL PAINTER JO BAER

From 24 May through 25 August 2013, the Museum Ludwig will be showcasing - as the first ever German institution to do so - the US American artist Jo Baer (*1929 in Seattle, lives since 1984 in Amsterdam) in a solo exhibition. Baer is regarded as a pioneer of Minimalism and already reached an initial high point in her career in 1975 when the Whitney Museum of American Art mounted a retrospective of her work. Starting out from a scarcely known core of drawings, which are flanked by major works on canvas, the exhibition concentrates on the artists minimalist period from 1960 to 1975 before following on to her current, figurative work.

The film will be available in our DVD Edition and will be screened at the Museum Ludwig.

KONRAD KLAPHECK AT MUSEUM KUNSTPALAST IN DÜSSELDORF
IKS PRESENTS DOCUMEMTARY ABOUT LIFE AND WORK OF THE ARTIST

KONRAD KLAPHECK - Pictures and Drawings

26 April - 4 August 2013

With a retrospective Museum Kunstpalast will be illuminating the work of an internationally renowned protagonist of the Düsseldorf art scene: Konrad Klapheck. Approximately 60 of his most important works from all of his creative periods have been selected in close collaboration with the artist himself. The exhibition also presents drawings and studies of selected pictures, thus demonstrating the creative process of his painting.

The representational painting of Konrad Klapheck, who has enjoyed international renown since the 1960s, defies comparison with any other. His oeuvre remains an exceptional phenomenon – his works, which at times are ascribed to Surrealism, at other times to Pop Art, have become classics already in his lifetime. Particularly well-known are his machinery pictures, which are monumental and extremely precise and can be experienced as threatening by the viewer. From 1997, human figures appear in Klapheck’s work, mostly in erotic scenes as well as in portraits of famous Jazz musicians.

HANS-PETER FELDMANN KUNSTAUSSTELLUNG
1. MÄRZ − 2. JUNI IN DER HALLE FÜR AKTUELLE KUNST

The exhibition opening in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg on March 1, 2013 is dedicated to the major series, installations, sculptures and paintings of Hans-Peter Feldmann. Born in Düsseldorf in 1941, the artist shot to fame in the early 1970s with his encyclopedic photographic series, the material for which he found in the grand fund of everyday images. Feldmann bridges the ostensible divide between art and the everyday, and bathes things he finds in the banal world of the everyday, from amateur photos, toys and general bric-a-brac, in his own personal, poetic light. His works have been exhibited, in the Guggenheim in New York, at the Documenta and the Venice Biennale to name but a few venues. He has come to occupy the high echelons of the German art world, joining Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke as some of the country’s most famous artists, exerting a truly palpable influence on the subsequent generation of artists.

We were allowed to accompany the artist during the setup. Many thanks!

BRYAN ADAMS - EXPOSED

February 2nd - May 22nd 2013 / NRW-Forum Düsseldorf

The Canadian Bryan Adams counts undoubtedly internationally to one of the most important rock musicians. But that Bryan Adams is also a gifted photographer is not (as yet) widely known. In addition to his passion for music, his love of art—and of photography in particular—has grown over the past few decades. With the exhibition Bryan Adams – Exposed, the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf will show a comprehensive cross-section of the Canadian’s best works. This will be the first time this collections goes on display in Germany.

‘The subjects of my first film, in the mid 1970s, were concert photos of the Beach Boys, parking lot walls, my girlfriend in the bathroom, my Mom, my piano, just everyday things, but exactly the things I could see around me.’ Over the years, the subjects of Adams’ photos changed. Numerous friends, celebrities, and super stars posed for him including Amy Winehouse, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Ben Kingsley, Mickey Rourke or Dustin Hoffman. In 2002, on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s golden jubilee, he was selected to make a portrait of the queen. The resulting photo later appeared on a Canadian stamp.

The most important personal series of works, however, is one group of British soldiers who have been hardly wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. This intimate side of the "Faces of War" impressed by an unsuspected ease in without loosing the seriousness.

Ralph Goertz met the artist for an exclusive interview. MANY THANKS!

ANTON CORBIJN AND RALF BRÖG AT THE PETRA RINCK GALLERY

Anton Corbijn has become known not only for his insightful portraits, but also with films like "The American" starring George Clooney. His stylistic aesthetics, which manifests itself in the subtle nuances of his black and white tones, the coarse grain of the film, the unique use of natural light, as well as the fantastically secure sense the right hundredth of a second, the right moment, made him one of the most important contemporary portrait photographers.

Until February 23rd Anton Corbijn shows some of his portraits from the 1970/80er years at the Petra Rinck Gallery in Dusseldorf . In contrast, the sculptor Ralf Brög shows his conceptual photographic work, in which he comes as close with a microscope the surface of vinyl records and analyzes their stucture. Very interesting!

MUSEUM TINGUELY BASEL AND IKS AGREE COOPERATION

The Museum Tinguely presents until September 30th, 2013 the exhibition TINGUELY @ TINGUELY and focuses particularly on the early work of the "master of kinetic art".
In addition to earlier works from the years 1954-1955, which are rarely issued, this unique exhibition shows a representative overview of over 30 years and all the work groups of the Swiss artist.

Of course there are exhibited the spectacular works as the grim-black "eureka" plants and ground covering large sculptures such as "Big Méta Maxi Maxi Utopia" in 1987.

The most amazing thing, however, offers all the works: Tinguelys works seem up to date and bringing the viewer astounding even today!
